Turner Prize Age Limit

I think this is probably true, although it's not what it says on several websites, including Wikipedia.

Wikipedia says "Between 1991 and 2016, only artists under the age of 50 were eligible". This would mean that the maximum age to be considered for the prize (which is what the question asks) was 49.

The Grauniad reported in 2017 that "The Turner prize ... [would] from [that] year lift its rule that eligible artists must be under 50."

But the prize's own page, on the Tate Gallery's website, states that "In 1991–2016 the prize had an age limit of 50." To me, this means that 50 was the maximum age to be considered for the prize.

(If the speed limit is 30 mph, you are allowed to drive at that speed.)

The distinction may be unimportant to the prize's administrators and judges, who can in any case, no doubt, interpret their own rules in any way they wish. But the public, and especially the quiz fraternity, needs to have the rule nailed down unambiguously!

If anyone else is ever considering setting this question, I think you should allow either 49 or 50 – unless you can find a way of resolving the ambiguity.
